Once we have controlled the input, we then have to deal with the input.
Canada’s Largest Ribfest will be active in doing this by providing green (biodegradable) and blue (recyclable) containers for the public to use, as well as having several stations where people can take waste to be sorted.
Education will be a large part of our plan. We understand that we have a role to help educate the public that the biodegradable container can take the containers with the utensils, along with food leftovers, and in addition will accept the corn starch cups - despite the fact that they look like plastic. As we expect the natural tendency will be for people to put the cups in the recycling, so our recycling staff and
volunteers will be sorting the blue containers to make sure they hold only recycleables.
We will educate through the website, digital newsletters, signage at the park during the festival, and with the help of our media partners to assist in launching our program.
